Ciao and welcome to Life out loud. I am your host, Desioeé Melfi Bozzo. We're going to be throwing around encouragement, a little bit like confetti and giving you support to live your very best life. Ciao friends welcome to episode four of season three of the life out loud podcast. I am the creator of this Podcast and your host, Desireé Melf Bozzo. This season. We are, as you may know, be-bopping our way through the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians five in the Bible. The fruits are important because they're an amazing barometer for our lives. I think I talked about that last time. And the level of success or not that we are reaching can usually be mapped back to these fruits. So if you're not familiar with the fruits, and if you're like, what, why are we talking about fruits? What about veggies? I don't know what's happening here, head back to the first episode of the season. Take a quick listen. It'll give you good foundational knowledge to get you up to speed and ready for some really big wins in your life. So quick reminder, a quick rundown Galatians five tells us the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, which we've all covered patience, which we're going to cover today. kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. So today we're focusing on patience and I have a question for you. Have you ever prayed for patience and in return, you've received mass chaos and situations so full of actual bizarreness that you have no idea what was happening? Yeah, me either. Just kidding. So I remember this a while ago, I remember hearing an amazing sermon on the power of patience. So it was like, oh, sweet, I need that. I'm gonna start praying for that huge mistake. Literally the same week, my car was broken into and I lost my house keys that kind of lose your keys where they never actually resurface and you have to get new ones made. Awesome. I remember thinking literally, I still remember as clear as day I remember thinking I am so glad I prayed for this very, very sarcastically. Friends, I can promise you it has been a lot of years. But I have never prayed for patience since then, truly, I haven't. Perhaps that makes me a bad Jesus girl. But I'm not trying to attract a mess like that ever again. That being said, patience is everything. And it is also a very hard fruit to bear. Patience means waiting. It means long suffering. And that word alone long suffering just sounds painful. Does anyone out there relate to kind of just wanting to get the suffering over and get on to the next best thing for a girl with a pension toward competition patients means slowing it way, way down and letting others catch up. Oof doesn’t feel very good. In the book of James, it's found toward the end of the bible Jesus’ half brother is writing a letter to the early Christian church. These are 12 tribes that are scattered among the nations. So in chapter one of James, verse 19, we see him allude to patience by saying, My dear brothers and sisters take note of this, everyone should be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to become angry. Essentially, he's telling us to be patient because in order to do any of this successfully, we must exercise the fruit of patience. That's hard in a world where we aren't the best listeners anymore. It's hard in a world where we want to talk more than we want to listen and it's hard when we are so ready to get offended at every pass. And maybe you got offended when I say that we're a society that's too quickly to be offended. Anyone out there feeling me on this? See a little later. In James chapter five, he visits the topic of patience in the suffering and he tells us be patient then, brothers and sisters until the Lord's coming. Then he uses an example of a farmer patiently waiting for the land to yield its valuable crop patiently waiting for autumn and spring rains. I think this is a beautiful picture of patience. Do I have any gardeners out there? I'm not quite I won't say I'm a gardener. Like I don't have like an outside garden but I definitely have a super green thumb. And over the last year I have become obsessed. Probably that's definitely how my husband would describe it. Like insanely obsessed with houseplants. Probably also much to his dismay, but it's fine. I enjoy it. In addition to a wide variety of foliage in every room of the house, I grow microgreens in my zestigreen sprouting box to throw into smoothies and salads, and I also grow lettuce and herbs in my AeroGarden. Now, I know you're thinking cool story Dez, but like, why are you saying these words right now, because my friends, it's everything. And here's why. I don't care how many times I plant the seeds, or I sprout them. When I see the green shoots appear. I'm always literally surprised and in awe, like something miraculous happens when you plant a seed. And it all hinges on patience. We plant the seed below the surface, and we cover it with this dirt and we set the conditions just right I have like these lamps that like get the right amount of light for the right amount of hours. And this food that gives it the right nutrients and the water and all the things right the perfect conditions. And then I wait. And after enough water, after enough light, the skin of the seeds starts to break down. And we can't see it. But we know the root starts to form right on the surface. We see nothing though. So we wait. And then more water and then more sun. And meanwhile, the roots are starting to grow deeper, right? The bud starts to push its way upwards. But on the surface, we still see nothing. And so we wait. And we wait. And we wait. And we wait. Until one day we look and we see the seedling and it is it's magic. I swear every time it's magic, we see it pushing its way through the dirt and all of its God made glory enough water enough sunlight enough patience, and guys, it grows. I think this is so important to learn. And if you haven't figured out now this is about way more than gardening. In the waiting the plant was developing. It needed to crack through the tough shell exterior, it needed to grow roots. To keep it growing strong for a long, long time, no matter what comes its way it needs those roots, that strong foundation. And what happens under the dirt is essential for the growth above it. Without that time the plant would never stand a chance. Now I'm suddenly questioning if I'm really talking about plants at all. I'm not you know, I'm not. How many of us can relate to this on a life level? The daily growth in the dark, the waiting and the waiting, pouring on the right conditions, the water, the light, the nutrients being patiently consistent, long suffering growing those unshakable roots. So when the storm comes, you stay firmly planted, the waiting and the waiting and the waiting until the fruit. My dear sweet listeners we see patience over and over again in the Bible and it never comes without suffering. Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years for God's timing to bear a child. Those of you who know about my infertility journey. Well, this one hit close to home. And just a side note, if you are going through that journey right now. I understand. And I have empathy and it sucks and it's hard and it's not fun. And some days it wrecks your soul. Head over to my blog. I blogged through our journey and I hope that the word you find there can give you encouragement and hope for tomorrow. So heading back over to Scripture, Abraham and Sarah, right. They waited, they waited and they waited sometimes taking matters into their own hands. But God came through right. Joseph faithfully waited on God to work things out for his good. God showed up. The Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years, sometimes not so patiently waiting. Got eventually led them into the Promised Land. And then there's the stories of Job, and Noah, and Hannah, and David, and Moses, and Rebecca. God coming through every single time. Not always how they wanted, but coming through in His way in His will. And then my friends, there's the story of our Jesus, our sweet savior. He was perhaps the most shining and incredible example of patience. The latter part of First Timothy 1:16 tells us Christ Jesus displayed his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in Him and receive eternal life. Jesus displayed his patience in absolute perfect form because it was that important to model for us. He needed us to see perfect patients. For me this begs the question but why? Why is it so important of a fruit to bear and not just bear but bear well that our Savior model it perfectly? When we have cultivated patience in our life. We can more readily handle setbacks, we can become comfortable in waiting on God's timing. This world tells you you do you and it sells the lie that we deserve to be happy no matter what but I'm, I'm gonna push back on this because I actually don't believe that. When I take the “you do you” advice and I do me, it takes everyone I come in contact with out of the equation. And when I start to believe the lie that I deserve to be happy no matter what, it makes me the center of my life. We aren't made to be the center. We are made to bear the fruit. Friends, I promise you self centered lives are rarely full. I hope you enjoyed episode four of season three. I know it's a Ask me how I know or don't maybe don't. But just know that I hard one because patience is rarely easy. I hope you begin to see the beautiful fruit of patience bearing and blooming know. after study after studying the text, I truly believe Jesus and blossoming in your life. Come back next time. We're going to throw more encouragement around like confetti. But as showed us immense patience. Because of his love for us. We always be careful if you get too close. You just might get some needed it modeled so we had a Blueprint here on this earth on you and remember friends there is always always always something to be thankful for.
