Desire Melfi Bozzo:

Ciao and welcome to Life out loud. I am your host Desire Melfi Bozzo. we are going to use this space to share experiences and help you find lasting, unshakable unwavering unmessable with joy and gratitude. We're going to be throwing around encouragement, a little bit like confetti and giving you support to live your very best life. Ciao friends, welcome to episode three of season two of the life out loud podcast, I am as always your host Desire Melfi Bozzo. thank you, first and foremost, for spending time in this space with me today. I'm truly glad you're here. And I'm grateful as always, because this wouldn't be a thing without you. And I'm glad that you're here. I'm glad that you trust me enough to come back. I'm glad that you're curious. And you want to hear these like these, these little nuggets of wisdom that I want to put out into the world. So I have to start this episode in complete transparency. This was not at all what I had planned for episode three. Before all my shows, I put show notes together, I want to make sure I have all my thoughts really cohesive and and I kept getting this nagging feeling in my soul that wouldn't go away. And every time I'd go to work on the show, I get pulled in a different direction. And I don't know if that's ever happened to you. I've always had really strong gut feelings. And I've always had a really strong intuition. And I've lived long enough to know that you just roll with it. You don't ask questions, and so begrudgingly or not, here we are. In the last episode, we talked about healing the past, and I wanted to move forward by talking about slaying your present. But this nagging in my soul wouldn't let me do that until I talk to you about something else. First. So this episode is on our words, hence the title say what?! we can't possibly even think about the present moment, until we address the driving force of the success or failure that powers it. Our words. Now, I want to give you a complete full and utter disclosure, this isn't some name it claim it thing. It's not about manifesting a future. I'm not into that. This is literally about the tangible power behind the words we speak every day. And this is the and, how they are in direct correlation with the actions that we take or don't. Our words, you guys, they impact so many things, our words and our thoughts, those are directly related. I think building on that our words tell a really clear story about our values and the character that we have and even more about our actions. I was doing some research around this. And I read a statistic and it stopped me in my tracks like so men and women collectively. I know this is an average, but men and women speak roughly on average 16,000 words a day. Now if that seems like a lot, I want you to take into consideration. This is startling kind of the average preschooler, here's 21,000 words a day. I want to sit for a second with the implications of that. This means that our children are soaking up, literally everything. Like as a mom, I feel like I always kind of knew this right? Like, of course our children, they're absorbing everything but like, literally, they are absorbing so much more than we are. And I feel like this made my mama heart kind of get quick breath a little bit. You know, I want to ensure that my son is always hearing good and powerful conversations. I want them to be conversations that fill his cup conversations that lift him up conversations that tell him about the tell him about Jesus. I want to make sure that there are conversations that tell him like he can do hard things and he can do good things and he can do both things right. As parents, we get to teach our kids how to experience the world around us. The way we paint this picture, the more I thought about this, like the way we paint this picture. Friends, this is important work and if I can press on that point a little. I'm going to say it's the most important work we do in our lifetime. Our words hold power whether we want to believe that or not. And so with this, I asked the question, I'm going to ask it in the form of we because myself included, what are we saying? Words build each other up, or they tear each other down? How are we using our words to impact the people around us and the communities we live in, there's a quote, I read in one of my favorite devotionals, called gospel centered motherhood. And it says, and I quote, our words and actions can cultivate a gospel saturated atmosphere in our homes. And while that got me thinking, This isn't just for the moms. This is for the dads, and the husbands and the wives, and the sisters and the brothers and the sons and the daughters and the co workers and the peers and the friends. The amount of times in a day that we as humans, as people, can impact the atmosphere and the environments that we do life in is virtually endless. Friends, what are we saying? In Matthew 12, verse 34, we find Jesus in the midst of a conversation with the Pharisees. Now, remember, Pharisees were experts in the law. And we find Jesus revealing truth that will make you take a knee in awe of him right in awe of who he is. In verse 34. He tells them from the For the mouth speaks with the hardest for love. So again, I'm going to ask the question, friends, what are we saying? I feel a pang in my chest when I asked that. Because the real question behind that The harder question. It's not what am I saying? It's not what are we saying? The harder question is, what is my heart full off? What is your heart full of? There's a quote that says you can tell what a person values by what they spend their money on. I want to argue that the same is true for the heart and our words. You can tell what is in a person's heart by listening to what comes out of their mouth. Is it empowering truth? Is it self defeating prophecy? Maybe it's a lukewarm muddy mixture of both right? Look, I'm a girl who loves to talk. Anybody who's known me for any amount of time has known probably knows, I love to talk. I have spent a lot of the past two years listening, observing. Now, don't get me wrong, I spent some serious time talking. But in the listening, ah, the learning, the learning is in the listening. I think what what it's revealed over the past couple years, about people has been informative, to say the least. I think it's been both good. And it's been bad. I think it's been really uplifting. And it's given me a really, really great view of of the state of our world. But it's also been completely heartbreaking. Spending time in the listening can tell you a lot about a person. What has become so clear are the words in Matthew 34. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth actually speaks right. So for this in this alone, I think we have to cling to the wisdom in Proverbs 4:23. Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. I can't help but think how fruitful it would be. If we took the space in our heart. And we filled it with truth. Where there's no space, right? We clean out the lies, we replaced it with truth. We do the hard work because friends that is the heart work. Scripture tells us that when we cling to the truth, we are set free. We are sanctified. In truth there is

wisdom. Colossians 4:

6 tells us let your conversations always be full of grace. Seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everyone. This world we live in is hard and it is complicated at best some days. And I don't know about you, but I find peace in that. Knowing that my only job is to ensure that my conversations are full of grace. Season with salt because then then in that space, that space of grace, I know how to answer everyone right? I find peace in that like true tangible peace. I started I talked about Matthew 12:34. But I can't talk about that without going a couple verses further and talking about

verse 36. Matthew 12:

36 tells us everyone will have to give an account for their words. For as much as I would love to pretend that my head and my heart and my words are pure and dripping with honey, y'all, I can promise you they're not. I have lots of work to do. I get a front row seat at what happens in my head, I see where my thoughts go. I know the myth, the moments, the minutes, the times that I've bitten my tongue. Because what what I really wanted to say in that moment, was a little bit less than stellar look for a Jesus girl, right? If I can be completely transparent, I also think I will probably have work to do at taming my tongue every day that I spend on this side of heaven. How about you? Where can you tame that unruly muscle that resides in your mouth? I think the first part of taming it really is recognizing that there's something to be tamed in the first place. Paying attention being mindful being conscious of it. What are you saying? Right, starting with the heart work scrolling through our hearts as much as we do our Instagram feeds, examining what is there and why cleaning out the junk and Filling the spaces with truth and then guarding that truth as though we were a mighty warrior guarding our most treasured fortune. Friends it is not always easy and I'm not even pretending that it is. But I think I think with enough effort with enough prayer with with enough inviting the Holy Spirit to take the wheel when it comes to your words I truly think you can speak life. You can speak encouragement. When I say you I mean we because myself included. Friends we can speak the kind words that light up even the darkest rooms. I truly believe that together we can change the conversation. Friends, I hope you enjoyed this episode. I hope it was fruitful as you embark on thinking about what you're saying. Send me a message. I always love hearing your thoughts. Come back next time and let's throw more encouragement around like confetti. But be careful if you get too close. You just might get some on you.
